NO NEED TO WHISPER IT SOFTLEY⦠LUKE'S A TOWN PLAYER!
Nuneaton Town are delighted to welcome centre-back Luke Softley to the club.
A graduate of the Aston Villa Academy, Luke has also represented Hungerford Town before moving to Step 3 side Bromsgrove Sporting, where he firmly established himself as a fans' favourite. Luke also picked up the Players' Player of the Season award last season.
He now joins the Town defensive ranks and links back up with former teammate Aaron Roberts, having played alongside him extensively last season.
Darren Acton said:
"Luke is a player that ticks all the boxes for us. He's played at a good level, has real leadership qualities and is someone who understands what it takes to be successful in a dressing room and on the pitch. As soon as we knew there was an opportunity to bring him to Nuneaton Town, we were keen to make it happen. He's a strong defender, excellent in both boxes and, just as importantly, a top character who will fit seamlessly into the group we've built here.
Having that existing partnership and understanding with Aaron Roberts is a huge bonus, and we're excited to see what they can achieve together in a Town shirt. We're delighted to welcome Luke to the club."
Russ Dodd added:
"We're excited to add Luke to the squad. He has experience at a higher level and will bring real quality and presence to our back line. His character and mentality will fit exactly what we're building here at Nuneaton Town. Luke is a fantastic character and someone I know our supporters will take to straight away. His signing complements the quality and character we already have within the squad, while adding further strength as we prepare for the challenges of Step 4 football.
We're building something special here at Nuneaton Town and Luke is exactly the type of player and person we want to be part of that journey."
Upon committing the Town Luke said:
"I can play anywhere across the back line, but my preferred position is centre-back. As a player, I always give 100% and I'm willing to put my body on the line for the team whenever it's needed. I'm extremely excited to be joining your wonderful football club and can't wait to get started. I'm looking forward to meeting the rest of the squad and the excellent supporters that I've heard so much about. Hopefully together we can enjoy a successful season and create plenty of great memories along the way."
Welcome to Nuneaton, Luke. We can't wait to see you in blue and white. π

It depends on his circumstances. But if he was non-contract or it has expired, he was free to leave.
My guess his preference was originally to stay at Bromsgrove, but given the have signed most of Hednesfords squad from last season, he judged his playing opportunities would be limited (given the wording of his departure)

This π
Bromsgrove Sporting can announce that defender Luke Softley has chosen to leave the club.
You will have seen that Luke had agreed to stay with us, but he has expressed his wish to search for game time and has therefore chosen to move away from Sporting.
We thank Luke for his efforts last season and wish him well for the future.

In between seasons, if you're not on contract and not signed forms for a club, it's only a verbal agreement and there can still be movement straight away.
I believe that once a registers with a club, another club then has to put in 7 days notice of an approach.

Hope is not a plan.

The most obvious one now is a bit more in attack . No mad rush as players like Softly can suddenly become available and you need a bit of wiggle room just incase .

Looks slightly unbalanced at the minute ... probably need two more defenders, and at least one if not two strikers. That would take us up to a squad of 20......( too many )
some would have to move on .

I do not (as yet) see any equivalent replacements in the squad for the loss of Callum and Kyle. No, I don't want to be all judgemental about their departures and I certainly don't want to rekindle that debate again. It's done. They made their choices. Good luck to them and if they manage to rekindle their playing history elsewhere at a similar level one day, I hope all goes well for them.
But besides their obvious playing ability they both contributed a lot in attitude and determination.
Impossible to have a third season in a row where we achieve so highly. Especially now. Unless we could manage to reignite the links we used to have with them lot up the A444.
Cyrus..Nathan..Lee..come on, help me out. Who were the others?

I don't know. I'm expressing an opinion. That's why it's called a "Forum." That's what we do on here.
You are 100% correct that I haven't seen them play yet. I am also 100% certain that as (in my opinion) Carsley and Jardine contributed quite a lot to our successful season previously, we would be extraordinarily lucky if history repeated itself.
Fingers crossed. I'll let you know. When I've seen them.

But they dont wanna play for us no more.
Both players have past history for not wanting step 4. I'm really not surprised both wont be returning and so have the managers hence we have signed a stiriker and left back. We'll see how it works out next few months.

I dont think you can put both in the same pot here.... Carsley an absolute legend over the last two seasons for us (IMO). I really don't think he'd of made the step up but we'll never know will we.
Jardine.... gained legened status with some fans, his goal contribution was outstanding.... IMO he's let himself down in the manner he left.
When YOU ask for a contract the least you can do is honour it.

I haven't heard 1 rumour ( yes its rumours ) about why Carsleys leaving, infact you could say his decision was backed up since his wife had the baby, I believe he dosnt train regular , missed alot of midweek games, even weekend games with his work at the FA.
Jardine on the other had had a contact, a contract he asked for,. IMO he didn't leave for the reason he and the club gave, that was put out by both parties to smooth things over.
Anyway both gone, we move on without them

Re: Current Squad

I don't think you can expect that much from players who are playing in the County Leagues at Steps 5/6 & below?
There are thousands of players who are playing at those levels around the country.
They are effectively playing recreationally for their own enjoyment of playing football, playing mainly for community clubs, some of them with the added bonus of being paid a wage.
I expect the better players at those levels, like Jardine, can command a better wage.
Jardine was clearly uneasy about his situation, going forward.
They can move around between clubs, that's their choice & the 7-day notice of approach is always hanging over clubs like an unwanted shadow!
It is going to be interesting to see how that attitude will translate for Town at Step 4, with two new signings who are senior players from a much higher level now in the squad.
Just my thoughts!

There is an expectation surrounding Town, that most other clubs do not have deal with, in that they can progress at their own pace, in their own time.
There are smaller clubs doing well because they have benefactors.
Peterborough Sports & Rushall Olympic have both sampled life at Elite level & have been relegated.
Needham Market have tried their best on small attendances.
In all three cases, the supporters have benefitted from upgraded Stadiums.
That is something that Town will have to factor in to the equation at some point, as they progress.
