I would not expect a good striker would come as a trialist. If he is as good as you want him to be, another club will have signed him up. There will be strikers, but how good will they be?
I can’t remember us signing a good striker who came on trial.

Christie was was an exception rather than the rule. A UCL player that made the step up look easy. There are very few of such players about. We can hope.

Four players over a thirty year timespan hardly suggests an abundance. The fact is , signing a player from that level is a gamble. As we have just found out, players at UCL level will not commit to the rigures of extra training, more travel, and the extra demands of higher league football. With the likes of Christie and co we got lucky.

I think you're putting all players in one pot here ( Jardines pot ).
I dont think he's on his own but there are and will be plenty of other players that have the desire, grit, determination to better themselves and progress..... sadly Jardine wasnt one of them ,if you belive his reasons why.

It may come across that way but I was looking at it from the Towns perspective. As per previous comments we have had players from the UCL that have done realy well for us, and in Melcolm Christies case, gone on to have a career in the football league. Indeed, we have resigned most of last seasons squad in the belief that some, if not all, will be able to step up. The main concern ,however is getting another striker. With the club working to a strict budget is it prudent to gamble on someone from a lower league in the hope that they will be good enough, and committed enough to make the step up. Or, is it best to get a player that has already made the step up and shown commitment? We don't want to go back to the JG days of a revolving door policy, as the budget will not allow such frivolence

Town have presumably signed most of last years squad in the hope/assumption that they will be good enough to step up to the next level & also as a reward for their loyalty, commitment & quality performances in the last two seasons.

If some of those players don't prove to be good enough, then the management duo will have to address that problem, if it arises?

Also, Town have been fairly lucky with injuries in their two promotion seasons.

Time will tell.

too right ref DD plenty of them...... lurking :-) looking for one last pay-day
however you either pay the going rate or you 'make do'
i have no idea on the finances of the club or the wage structure.
or indeed the going rate at this level for a proven goal-getter
think we will have the answer (s) come the big kick off.
hence watch this space... eh ????
after 2 promotions the club is going to hit the buffers eventually.
probably sooner than later.
a 3rd promotion is a big ask imo.
BUT that is a 100pc. guess.
