Covering of mouth (almiron incident)

Morning all non boro related but I’m confused 🫤 is this law being implemented into next season from the premier league right to the step/level we’re in next season what Miguel almiron did was stupid but is this law only used for the World Cup ?

I don't know whether it is just for the world cup, but all players and officials would have been made aware of such a rule. For a player to break the rule is, like you say , stupid. The removal of shirts when scoring a goal has been a booking offence for a while now but players still do it ,which says a lot for the mentality of some players.

I have looked on that as gross stupidity for a long time. If a player has already been booked he will be sent off. Surely they realise this when they take their shirt off, or do they do it to get a rest in the next game.

It applies to all major international competitions & is discretionary for all other competitions.

Pretty soon you will be sent off for thinking the ref is useless

If that were the case then all games would be abandoned because of so many players being sent off.

Set piece wrestling

Funny that this, one of the most irritating of all the trappings of "modern football," continues to go unpunished. Perhaps FIFA think that having a bit of Graeco-Roman grappling at every corner and free kick just adds to the manliness of it all. A quick finger wagging is all the guilty players ever get. Ref trots away-off they go again.
It is actually cheating. Grabbing an opponent round the waist and flinging them to the ground is cheating. Whispering behind your hand or taking your shirt off is pretty affected. But it is not cheating.

Yes I know what you mean. It seems to me though , that football in becoming a none contact sport. There is no place in the modern game for the likes of Gill, Branston, Lewis, Crowley, or Bullock. Players nowdays seem to fall down at the slightest contact, and react as thougjh they have been coshed.

John Gill. A old-style centre half who wore rugby boots. Scary.

Joined the Boro from Hartlepool with his team-mate John Bircumshaw, a full back.
