It was what it was ... a pre-season workout... worked hard on a hot afternoon and came away with the win. One player who impressed me was the number 3, not sure if he was a trialist or a new signing ....

The scorer of the 1st goal was Osazuwa Bello who came through the ranks at Tamworth. He played as a trialist.

Decent performance .
First half was mostly even but Stratford took the lead after a short spell of pressure .
Second boro the better team trialist scores after really good work by Harrison & Sawyer then a fine sole goal by Sawyers .
Two well known faces in the Stratford dug out in Dale Belford & Andy D ( the mad coach who usually works with Jimmy )

Thanks for that. I thought AD had gone back to Basford when he left Barwell. Oh well.

You'll cop it. You can't say that. "Pesky?" I bet you get a nip on the ankles next time we are at The Oval.
Biggest Canine star since Rin Tin Tin? ( Only me and Joe Towny will remember him). And the biggest Boro following since Paul Culpin? (Ditto)
.
Wish I'd gone yesterday, instead of doing a Thackeray. Still haven't ticked off Stratford's ground.

At the time when Stratford were on our fixture list, I seem to recall was not our finest hour.
At the time it was our "home" ground it was definitely not our finest hour and I was operating a boycott.
And yes, I do call myself a fan. I hope to be picking up two (renewed) season tickets and a new home shirt tomorrow night.
:)

You and I know exactly who betrayed who. With their refusal to pay bills: extravagant purchases; and potholed approach roads.
Plus the football became so bloody dire....

You did the right thing Sauce and more should have done the same. My final game was Stratford away just before the end - I was abused by a young fan who didn't like my opposition to the JG regime. I watched most of that era and It was abysmal but the truth is many Boro fans backed him and his methods till the end. Other long standing fans stayed away too and some have not returned. That is sad.

I can fully understand anyone who turned their backs at that time. It was one of many times in the last half century that made me question why I was giving time and money to the club when ,to be honest, I thought it was being run by either a bunch of morons, or people I would'nt trust to run a bath! In hindsight , I think it would have been better for the club to have folded rather than have JG take it over. Had we had a fresh start then, judging by the way it has been run the last two years, with the openness, and trust, that the people now running the club bring, we may well have been a lot further toward having our own ground, and even have progressed into higher leagues.
We would also have been spared the dross of JG's tenure. One thing is certain; we would not have been any worse off.

I suspect in 4 weeks one or two signing and one or two departures will happen as in previous years.

Looking at the list of players it's about 50 / 50 between new signings and players from last seasons squad . All the new signings look to have the pedigree for step 4 . Armson and the two central defenders above step 4 . The big question is going to be how many of last seasons squad can make the step up . Some would possibly be playing at step 6 if they weren't with us most step 5 , so it's going to be a big test .
To answer Joes question an additional forward would look the most obvious addition .

When he's on top!. Not seen that. Ah well! opinions differ. Everyone thinks he's good, I think he's slow always out of position (mostly due to Carsley pushing forward) and can't pass.

I think, (I'm sure he'll correct me if I'm wrong) , this is an example of Pod Wit. It's his version of being polite. You invited him to have a dig, pretty well. He only insults people he likes.
FTR I share his views on McGrath. A bit too meh for me.
Carsley now....sigh....a grand player with a decent brain. He has broken my granddaughter's heart by stepping back.

Anyone else remember the good old days when no eleven a side games were allowed by County FA until the third Saturday of July. Preseason tournaments had to be sanctioned by County FA and registered County FA referees were not allowed to officiate unsanctioned tournaments. Looking in now,it seems anything goes these days. Progress I believe itβs called.
Little by little.
