Can anyone from the management or coaching team give their thinking behind leaving macca out to dry at left back in the first half.

I dont think he's signed for this season yet ( correct me if im wrong ) so can possibly see him not making the final squad.

They were trying out a few different formations/ideas. I thought Macca did excellent second half.

They won't reply on here thats for sure. I didn't go but we have tried 3 centre halves and wing backs pre season. Expect he was a victim of being exposed for pace and no cover.

Pace, or lack of it , at the back, was something we all realised needed addressing at the end of last season.

Yer your spot on . He was played at left back first half and actually did well going forward but was ripped apart for pace defensively , allowing NSR almost a free run down the left . Second half he played central defender and things improved markedly . We really do lack pace at the back this means players can't just do there job as they need someone to cover them all the time . I will say at no point in pre season so far have we had all defenders available at the same time so its not been possible to play what's probably going to be our strongest unit .

This is what pre-season is all about. New players need to gel with each other etc.,I’m pretty sure that our management team will have the necessary tools ready for the real stuff come the season start.

It would be nice for them play together as a unit at least once or we will still be gelling once the real stuff starts , but i do understand players are not always going to be available pre season .

I think at the forum Russell said wait for the team at Rushall before we can see how we are likely to line up this season.
