Wasn’t there tonight., but listened to the commentary, according to the two commentators it was a cracking game and the Boro are a very good team ,and played some excellent football , they also said ,make no mistake about it Nuneaton are one of the favourites to win the league, it isn’t very often you hear away commentators say such things about the opposition side.

- some comments from Rushden fans who I'm assuming we're at the game.
For me:
We kept going right till the end and were unlucky not to equalise late on. Of course there are things to work on, we are playing at a new level, with a newly put together side. Rushden were heavy physical and huge. A lively game to watch full of energy and battle from both sides.

But still early doors, with a virtually new side. Only seen one League game and one friendly. We can score-but we are also shipping goals. I'll leave the experts to explain why.

Yes, while we await the experts views, I believe, having watched football at all levels; was never any good at playing, that teams that freely concede goals win nothing. Success is built on defence, ie, 1-0 to the Arsenal. The best managers ,over the years, have built their success by getting it right at the back first, like Joey, has posted ; pointless scoring two if you concede three.
It may be good to watch, but football is a results game.

I think as long as their intent to attack that very important.
You say “teams won’t lose if they don’t concede”. That’s true, but teams won’t win in they don’t score.
The winners are those who score more than the opposition. 5-4 is worth the same as 1-0, but people pay money to be entertained …. What would people prefer.
I recall when boro had an amazing run under Carr (finished 2nd to Wealdstone). No one was bothered if Boro went behind.
I also remember Boro finishing 5th under Coleman - 41 goals in 42 games!!! I was too young to know if it was entertaining.

You are quite right. We do pay to be entertained. Carr's team, with Culpin, scored for fun, so most games were entertaining. Coleman's team were also entertaining, and were free scoring until we lost Vincent, car accident , and Turpie, work accident, within a few weeks of each other. So yes you do need to be able to score. The point is though, neither, Carr's, or Coleman's team won the league. What is success? Mid table Entertaining football, with high scoring games, or winning leagues. I don't think you can have both.

I THINK the only leagues Boro (pre new model) have won were under Phillips and he had attacking teams.
Winning (as opposed to now losing) is more important now with 3 points/win.
I’ve lapsed going to the Boro due mainly due to the lacking intent under JG. In the last two seasons I went due to habit and no other reason.
Of course “back to the wall” has to be done, when survival is the aim and not promotion (or even mid table)

Big battle tonight ...... The lad from Shrewsbury isn't up to this league , sorry but thats the way it is.
Essa should of started.( If your a defender what you hate is running back towards your line ) this is what Essa gives you. Why he only played the last 15 minutes only the managers know.
Harrison's goal was class, just tucked it in inside the post, again needed more match time.
Cant agree with Doddsy, "we were the only team in it last half hour".... they had there chances from corners, a one on one with our keeper, should of put it to bed earlier.
R&D under 15s enjoyed there night ... No parents. OMG
All in all think they deserved it.
We know its going to tough , we know its going to be a long hard season, we know its a new team that still need to gel , that showed tonght, lost at times looking for that pass that through ball....
Its not there at the minute...
We move on .... FA Cup Saturday

Cracking game played in a proper atmosphere .
Agree with others we look weak at the back and based on the early games were going to concede a lot of goals this season . We look good going forward and play some good football but need Sawyers on the pitch not the bench . Though our build up play is good unfortunately our forwards don't look to have many goals in them so were relying on the midfield for goals . Stuff to work on but early days yet .

Thought the managers got the team selection all wrong last night ....... why have attacking players like Essa and Harrison on the bench, and then only make the two substitutions late on ? It wasn't working yet they persisted with it untill late into the second half.
On the good side I thought Terry was class first half, they couldn't deal with him .
