Boys did us proud today and played well. Bit of bad luck with their first goal being given when it was clearly a foul on our keeper.
If only we had a striker who has the physical presence, intelligence and nous to put away the chances that we keep on creating because the ones we do have try their best but ant`t good enough.

Overall we did well . Little in it against a side who look like they will be challenging at step 3 . If we had come away with a replay they couldn't have moaned and 2-0 was certainly harsh . As others have said we have little goal threat and that's costing us .

what is the going rate in financial terms for decent strikers at this level
are we talking say
circa £150 - £200 ? £250 ? £300 £ even higher !!! per week
or am i miles adrift here

For strikers, there will be wildly different pricing and different incentives for how well they do.
It is very difficult to find out how much playing budgets are for each team. Our budget is based on an average of 400 and Matlock who were are playing on Saturday in the Trophy but play at the same step have a budget of £7k a week (according to their chairman*).
There will be strikers at Step 5 (one below us) who will be on £250 imo.

+Edited as I got my figures wrong for the Matlock budget. 7k a week and according to the latest interview with their manager their current injury list is costing them £18k a month.

I think you have to take what others say about their budgets with a pinch of salt. Successful teams are always assumed to have bigger budgets than the not so successful ones. Rival fans, in the past , always seemed to accuse the Boro' of being Billy big boots, with a budget to match. At certain times, they were perhaps justified in doing so. That , as we are told , is not the case today. Are we guilty of doing the same ourselves? Our budget is based on a certain number attending matches, which given our sponsership, and other non matchday income seems sufficient to at least be competitive. There are teams who do not get the support at which we have set our budget on, so perhaps our budget is compatible to others.

I was talking to someone i know whos involved at a step 4 club . There manager was looking for a striker at this level and told me you are looking at £250 per week for an established step 4 goalscorer and i'm willing to bet there are forwards getting paid well above that at this level .

Was told we were in for a step 3 striker but ( again ) we couldnt or wouldn't match his wage demands ....
Now I dont know what we were offering but I do know he asked for more and how much more ... If it was me id of freed up some dead wood on the bench and filled that gap with a loan.

Typical Breedon . A few mad moments a couple of saves , steady and kept a clean sheet . Bantered with the Boro fans and gave us a clap . He also seems to carrying even more weight .
