I was not at the game yesterday but what I have seen this season is we have not got a good centre forward, someone who can hold the ball up and win the crosses in the air,when we get the ball up to the front it is just coming straight back and catching us out,teams are getting behind our defence will anybody know who we can get ?

Generally, the new players are of a higher standard, from what I have seen, ie- two home games. This would suggest that the squad itself is better. Unfortunately this is nulified by the fact that the majority of teams we now face are of a much higher standard too.
Mistakes at this level are more readily punished than in the league we just came from. We have just about rebuilt a whole new team who have yet to gel into an effective unit. This will come with experience,and with more playing time together. The managers, I'm sure, have a prefered style of play, and should be getting an idea of their best starting eleven to suit this. Swapping and changing line ups is counter productive as you cannot create effective units either in defence, or attack. Pick your best eleven and stick with it.
Like I posted yesterday; the Matlock game was a harsh lesson in what we will be facing this season. Get a solid defensive unit together. That is the priority, get that right then the results will follow.

If you are facing a striker with the class of Conor Washington playing at this level, then it doesn't matter how you prepare for the game you are going to be up against it!
The Matlock X site said that the Boro's centre-half didn't know how to handle him!
It would be very interesting to know how much he is being paid?
We know how that plays out because we have had top class strikers before & our opponents have suffered.
If we are going to rely on the County leagues/Sunday leagues to provide players & management at this level, then it could be a struggle to stay in this league.
It would also be interesting to know what Rich Lavery is doing at the moment?

A lot of the Matlock team are at Town’s level - they also made mistakes. First goal keeper should have saved, build up to pen our defender fell over. Too often their players were unmarked.

I have said it before, and will say it again. We need to get our defence sorted out. We could have scored four today but still have lost. From what those who were there have posted, their nine and ten, were the main difference between the two sides, but as Dodds has said, two players should never make that much difference. If a team has someone like a Culpin, then you need to prevent them getting the service they need. This level is a big step up from what we have had over the last two seasons. Matlock will not be the best side we play this season, as there are well established teams . Today should be a lesson, to both players ,and management; which if not learned, then we will have to get used to results like todays.

We did not play well at all first half. No getting away from it.
Matlock are managerless but have a 7.5k a week budget according to their chairman, so have some decent players and also brought some players in during the week.

I think the managers want to please everyone ( players ) they all get game time so they all get paid.
Players need to realise once they get the shirt they need to keep it .... it isn't a given that you will play.

He was outstanding we couldn't cope with him at all . They had some really good players there 6 & 11 also looked really good players at this level . We were poor all over the pitch and i'm struggling to think of anyone who had a good game .

its going to get a whole lot tougher for sure.
only the club, the management know our limit.
finances dictate in any pro sport or indeed semi pro.
not knocking that just stating the basic facts.
bottom line..... if it was not for the people running the club now there would be NO CLUB.

I don't like arguing with you JT and I rarely do. But I played lots of Sunday and Saturday League football. " Next to Amateur Pub Football" is definitely not what I watched over the last two promotion seasons.
Any one of our opponents from those two seasons would have massacred each of the various teams I played for. The Boro squad-any formation-would have reached double figures against them. Trust me.
I hear what you say about a rebuild. But players like Sawyers and Harrison and a few others (Jimmy when fit) MUST be retained. And PLAYED.

As always, Joe talks a lot of sense.
Some of the comments about the team and management are a bit over the top given the restrictions we have as a newly formed club playing within our budget. I believe that this group of players do always give their best and will improve with time as they get to know each other. There are not going to be any easy games in this league, and Tuesdays' match looks to be tougher than most. The best way to get the team to settle into this league is to get behind them.

To be fair i think most fans are aware of the situation and do give the players great support every game as they did yesterday , but its hard when your 4-1 down at HT . Even then there was no great criticism we just went a bit quiet .

I Should think it was a realisation of the task facing us this season. Over the last two seasons we have got used to being the dominant team, and putting our opponents to the sword.
With a bit of hard work, and organisation we can turn it around. It will get better, but we need to manage expectations.

The subs played well. The back four were just over powered. They were not as strong physically, slower and punished for every mistake they made. They will get better with more experience. We have yet to make any weak sides except, perhaps, Coalville.

Being caught on the break is a regular occurance.
Been saying about our defence all season, pre season and last season. Nothing has changed, we are tactically naive no plan B and thats due to managers who are out of their depth. I'm really worried we will get destroyed on Tue if we keep this up.

They definitely tried but got punished for basic mistakes at the back. Matlock looked a physically stronger side but were not dirty.
