Quite true but that excuse can and will soon run out of steam. If the goals scored column doesn’t improve rapidly then we won’t be in this tougher/better League for long. And incidentally,I’ve only seen them once this season against Coleshill, which we were lucky to snatch a win I thought.
Little by little.

Some would say dont forget we have better players than the last two seasons....
It dosnt always go hand in hand but we should be competing shouldn't we ?
On the other side of the coin ....
I believe players are inbound which would suggest the management aren't happy with what we've got, they must think we need to strengthen.... what areas I dont know 🤷

Harrison and sawyers run the socks off and Sommel was great ,we just need a goal scorer ,it tells you something that 2 forwards were on the bench tonight, the team were brilliant did not deserve to lose from a freak goal, i would keep Murphy as a back up to the new striker if we get one.

Played really well tonight could of won it, definitely lost it with a bit of bad luck at the end.
New keeper looked ok, made some good saves, got a decent enough kick on him..... probably man of the match with Essa who ran his socks off tonight.
Gripe..... shows what we have when you play a holding midfielder upfront and your two strikers are on the bench. Managers must know that as fo the fans.
Rumours abound about new players, money they want and what we're prepared to offer, not for the want of trying I think.

I agree that new keeper Gabriel was an angel (There: I'll write the headline!) He was excellent throughout. He has height: his distribution-either throwing or kicking-was good and he wasted no time in telling his defenders where to be. That's apart from some remarkable reflex saves. Almost matched the Doughboy's keeper's heroics at the opposite end.
True about Eesa also. He-always seems to be the one who keeps going and gives us hope with his speed and running. But a word also for Declan Somel. He put a shift in, too last night. Deserved his applause when substituted.
All defeats hurt-but in the circumstances, that one really really stung. Still does.

If fit, Sawyers, Harrison Armson, Stretton, Elliott and maybe even Somel must start. Take the game to them and keep them occupied. Attack being the best form of defence.
I'd even toy with putting Aaron Roberts up front. He's stripes through and through. Yeah go on everyone, laugh at me.
No sentiment. Pick the fittest, fastest most skilful footballers. We definitely still have some.

Jones?
Forward of the defence I’d start:
Elliott
Jones Stretton
Armson
Harrison Murphy
Unleash Eesa later….as much as I like him, final ball has to improve.
Get a decent no 9 and maybe have Harrison and Eesa either side and 3 behind.

I think players are paid if they play or on the subs bench. Not sure releasing players would raise enough. Performances are improving, with the exception of Matlock, no need to panic. I would give Harry Jackson (?) from our first season a try.

Yes, but the budget is set based on a lower attendence. Last years average of 600 was over the season. Take the Atherstone and Cov crowds off , then tuesdays crowd would be nearer the norm. S'Lad, is right to assume that trimming the squad would enable us to bring in a striker on better money without breaking the budget. However, our business model is effectively limiting ambition.
We do not want to go back to the boom and bust days of spending money we don't have just to gain a short term advantage. It gets a lot harder financially as you gain promotions. Managing expectation is as important as managing the club.

As long as NTFC remain at the Oval, while progressing their Planning ambitions & a return to Nuneaton, the existing business model will remain in place.
If/when a return to Nuneaton is achieved, the income streams will be boosted.
Staying at Level 8/Step 4 is a must while playing at the Oval.
An alternative business model would be to convert the current CIC (limited by guarantee) to a CIC limited by shareholding but I can understand the Board's reluctance to go along that route.
The problem with a CIC (limited by guarantee) is that it is difficult to raise equity/capital.
Edit:
The Club are trying to achieve a good balance between raising funds to support the teambuilding while also raising funds (ring-fenced) to support their Planning Application.
They have successfully achieved that aim over the past two seasons & gained two promotions from the County leagues in the process but this season is proving to be a much greater challenge.

You are quite correct. Our current business model has worked and should be able to sustain the club at our current level. Donations are now exactly that and not loans that have to be paid back.
I accept the fact that this current league may be our limit budget wise.
I will not accept the notion that we cannot be successful at this level. The terms and conditions offered to the players has not led to an increase of the budget from last season. From what I have seen, we now have the better players we needed for the step up.
The squad needs tweeking a bit; a goalscorer is a must, as we created enough chances on tuesday to have won the game against one of the form teams.

The supporters must realise/need to realise that if Town were playing in Nuneaton, at a new Stadium, with a 3G pitch they would have income coming in from matchdays, season ticket sales, sponsorship, bar & food takings, the Supporters Co-op & 3G pitch hire.
That said, the 3G pitch carpet would need to be replaced every 10 years.
At the moment they are functioning with one hand tied behind their back, in that they have no income from bar & food takings & 3G pitch hire & apart from that they are have to rent the facilities on offer at the Oval & also rent training facilities.
Yes, I agree that staying at Level 8/Step 4 should be achievable while playing at the Oval but that ultimately is the responsibility of the team management.
The playing budget should be realistic for holding their own in this league.

Level 7/Step 3 is the most likely ceiling playing at the Oval, both on & off the field & that will be a challenge if the present arrangement stays in place.
NTFC have to confirm to the FA where they will be playing each season.
The FA will accept an agreement for this season & next season, based on a Letter of Acceptance.
This arrangement will roll on for as long as Town play at the Oval.

As I see it Town is a long-term project, carefully managed over the next 15 years.
In the short-term, the next 5 years, the ambition should be to stay in this league as a minimum & continue playing at the Oval.
In the medium-term, 5 to 10 years, continue with trying to progress a return to Nuneaton & start work on the new Stadium at their preferred site.
In the long-term, 10 to 15 years, bring the new Stadium up to National League standard & try to progress upward through the Pyramid.
IMO, any better progress that can be achieved more than that is a bonus.
The supporters just need to be very patient.
Negotiating the Planning process will be a great challenge
Just my thoughts!

Town are going to be playing at the Oval for at least 6 seasons, based on information given out by the Club.
After 6 seasons, the situation concerning a return to Nuneaton will be a lot clearer.
Hopefully at that stage, they will have gained a satisfactory Planning permission for their preferred site & have enough funds secured to start on the new Stadium build, albeit that may be on a multi-phased programme over a number of years.
Edit:
If the next 4 seasons (or maybe longer) playing at the Oval are at this current level, then so be it!

All these mighty intellects piling in with advice

From their armchairs. But: to quote an earlier post:
Losing 200 on the gate costs around £2000
So although the additional advice is mostly well-intentioned, if a few more experts left their keyboard, got up, put their coat on and trusted the new set -up a bit more...there's your "new" striker's wages right there.
PS. May I re-iterate that this is a suggestion to "local" Boro "fans" only. Not aimed at all those exiled supporters who put in the miles every season home and away.
Thank god the Rugby Championship starts on Saturday.

From my armchair (well my desk to be precise).
Comments what I have read on here.
The club is just 2.5 years old.
It's playing at one level below the league it often struggled in.
Not having a ground, due to not paying bills is not a help.
Perhaps this is the clubs level now; at least in the short term.
No club can expect to win every season (like the last 2)
The model is ensure the club does not go bust AGAIN.
Whilst a team can not lose if it does not concede, it can not win if it does not score.
The rules are that any one of 11 players can score. Yes, a finisher helps.
No guarantee that any player will come up to expectations (strikers in particular).
The club had formed a "collective" atmosphere with transparency . That should not change in bad times.
The ambition for any club must be not to go bust.
Summary
Embrace the new structure and accept what limitations that may go with it OR demeaned success and be prepared for the consequences.

Where do the fans want the club to be and where it is sustainable are two different things. Talk of getting back to where WE belong, but where is that?
Some stats
Last seasons National league average attendance- 2200.
national north - 1300
Boro/town average league attendance - 1966- Covid season - best part of 60 years.
1450.
Take away the big gates of 1966-70 and the Phillips era gates and it does not
make good reading for steps 1 and 2.
If not enough paying customers, something has to pay the short fall- 12 months a year operating income from an owned stadium and facilities OR
a benefactor.
So many have been blamed over the years for poor governance and in some cases rightly so BUT perhaps the truth remains that Nuneaton people just haven’t come out in enough numbers to make the club viable at the higher levels without external investment.
Only success at a decent level will rebuild support but that is easier said than done.

The model I believe is working. I find the current backroom team friendly, helpful and approachable. (That's a first for me, personally, and a far cry from er...some of the previous shower).
I find Acco and Doddsy to be among some of the better coaching staff we have used. But I am a newcomer, only going back to 1989 when I started watching regularly.
Knowing who you are I am 100% certain you would have enjoyed a large percentage of the football since the reform.

Kind of agree ... but the budget is set on gates of 400, so even if we had 1000 gate the budget wouldnt be any more.
The managers have a budget, its there job to spend it in the best way they think possible ... but when players are asking for £150 more to dign its not hard to juggle that budget is it .
We're not asking the club to go boom and bust again, we're asking to move players on and bring new in.

When Robbie Savage got involved at Macclesfield, after they had gone bust, he mapped out the teamsheet & put wages against each player.
From memory, in Macclesfield's first season back as a new club, he came up with a figure of £3,500 a week as a realistic budget for a serious promotion challenge.
It would be interesting to see how Town's costed teamsheet/squad compares this season?

Robbie Savage priced the teamsheet.
I'm not sure whether that included the team management?
I can remember seeing figures like £150, £250 & £350 mentioned.
I think the centre-forward was targeted at £350 a week.
If Town are going to make progress at Step 4 then a squad budget of £3,500 a week does seem realistic to me!

I said that it is based on a guess because bert's dad asked a question about who's budget it was. There's absolutely nothing wrong with guessing or trying to work things out - I do it loads!
Any Co-op member (or Town fan in general really) is welcome to attend our monthly board meetings where we have usually at least three board members of from the football club attend and ask questions, hear updates on club activities, participate and offer to get involved with things. Our next one is on the first Monday in October. The club also regularly hold fans forums to supporters to ask questions.
I am sure that if there were fans who had a solid rationale about publishing the weekly playing budget, I am sure that they would take this into consideration and weigh this up against other factors. There are things that I think should remain confidential though, and the weekly playing budget is one of those things.
The club release absolutely tonnes of financial information via the treasuer's report (next one coming soon). I cannot think of another club at any level that provides such detailed information to it's fans - https://www.nuneatontownfc.co.uk/treasurer-updates

Being smug about knowing something, then deriding someone for having to guess the details is beyond the pail as far as I'm concerned. Like you posted, financial details are kept confidential and should remain so. All fans are interested in or concerned with is whether we can attract better players to the club or have to make do with what we have. Would you prefer that fans show no interest?

I think you must have read a different post to me. Mark started by saying that it seemed some guesswork had been involved - then posted details and links to sources where accurate info could be found. That's not being smug - it's showing where to find better data.

Mark's post from this morning was "LOTM is doing some guessing". That is what I was responding to.

When the Club say that the playing budget is based on an average league attendance of 400, does that include 100 Junior supporters in that figure, a percentage highlighted in one of LH's recent Treasurer's Reports?
Also, is it based on 275 season ticket holders being included in the 400?
If this is made clear to the supporters, then they would possibly be more understanding of the management teams challenges in recruiting players.

VoR, as I posted above, the club has been clear that the playing budget is BASED ON a gate of 400 per game. That doesn't mean that 400 entry fees are given to the players, it means that the player budget is an unspecified proportion of 400 entry fees.

Yes but if there’s no improvement crowds will dwindle

If that happens, next year's budget will be based on a lower average gate.

Since very few, if any, clubs disclose their budgets then LOTM, is left with little option but to guess. It amazes me how many times managers, chairmen, and other club officials, always seem to cite other clubs budgets as a reason for their own failings.

Sounds realistic, based on the comments posted on this forum re: players.
