His starement is rather generic to be fair. No mention of his reason for leaving the club. If he is taking a post elsewhere, then his attachment to us is perhaps not as strong as his statement suggests.

Maybe he's being diplomatic rather than "generic."

He could have just left. As some other players and officials have done in the past. Leaving gaps for us to fill in . Or left a barbed comment. But he didn't, because he is a gentleman and beyond that, a professional.

( You don't have to be on a six figure salary to have the professional nous to say goodbye properly. Regardless of the circumstances. Just a bit of class).

Personally I'd rather read something like that that than some whine about it being "too tough" or "I just want to play with my mates" etc. Or even silence. ( Also classless).

He could have said he was leaving for a better offer elsewhere instead of embelishing his statement about the love of our club. No one would criticise him for accepting a better job elsewhere, if that is the case, and I am sure most of us would have wished him well and also thanked him for what he has done for us. As I posted, a generic statement.

Why is he embelishing things? He's had two long spells at the club in different eras and clearly wanted to express that to fans?

Can you not wish him well and thank him if he doesnt mention his reason for leaving? Plenty of people leave roles without sharing their full reasoning.

Thankfully, IMO, it looks like most have wished him well.

Hope is not a plan.

I do wish him well. As you posted, he has had two spells with the club, for which any fan should be grateful for. I certainly have no problem with anyone moving on to better things. We all have done it ourselves in the past.

I sometimes wonder myself how some people so readily accept what is written or said. I was often astonished to read how well a certain ex manager was doing, and many posters said how well the club was being run....taking what they were being told as the gospel ... That ended well!
Three different clubs in less than fifty years is ever likely to make one cynical.
