To be fair to the lad, he was never given a run of matches in which to settle in. Not getting any goals ,when given the chance, possibly decided the outcome.

You are most likely right. Other than Armson, none of the players who have left, held a regular place. Sitting on the bench every game, when the team is getting the results they are, must have made them realise they had to move on to get any game time.
