Not for me it doesn't ...
We've had him before and he didn't rip up trees then...
We sign a striker from a team 3rd from bottom....
Smells of desperation rather than intention.
Just my thoughts so let's wait and see

I dunno ....
He may be the signing we've been waiting for, but his record this season in a team that was struggling wasnt good, that dosnt over impress me thats all.
We could of gone out and made that signing ( at like Armson was ) with that intention behind it.
It would of said to everyone and every club in this league just how serious we are.

Re: Striker signs

He played for Nuneaton Borough at Step 3 and made 4 substitute appearances. This was five years ago.
This season he has made 7 appearances for Corby Town and scored once. Corby have recently got some new owners, and a new manager, and im guessing a cash injection, this has led to them releasing 11 players of which Wakefield is one of them.
Last season, he played for two clubs (one at Step 3 and one at Step 4), had 24 starting appearances and scored 15 goals. If he has a similar ratio for us this season, that would be good IMO.
There's no doubt that he has played for a lot of clubs. This could mean lots of things
We will have to wait and see.
Why does it smell of that? Because it's not who you thought?

He has also scored the same amount of goals as Murphy for us 🫣🫣
Also a bit harsh saying he didn’t do anything first time around … when we had stenson and benbow playing for us at the time
Give the lad a chance , we create a lot of chances and he offers something different.

Re: Striker signs

Obviously it is a risk ,whoever you sign. Murphy's record was pretty good which was why he was signed. It just does'nt work out with some players , it is not really the fault of the players, but whether they fit in with your style of play, or the team play to their strengths.
Remember Barry Franklin? He scored for fun at Atherstone yet was a bit of a damp squid in our colours. He went back to Adders ,and was once again one of the top scorers in the league.
I do not know much about the new lad other than what other posters have said, but, if we have to revert to hoof ball to suit his style then I think it will be to the detriment of the team

agree 100%.... best bit of business we done that i can ever remember
Vincent was a real class act. Mckay was also a classy player
we had another quality signing ???? fullback come winger ( memory shot these days ) went on to play for Palace Arsenal etc and Eire.
the only one i can ever remember seeing who trumped Vino was
*Trev Morley. ended up at west ham.... oozed pure football class.
saw him v Corby couldnt believe it when we got him
so so many that oozed real quality over the decades
* think playing away was his downfall ( wink )

while im in the mood
some more useless info
do any of you on here remember when the Wolves transfer listed a CF for
£28000 ( real big money then ) he signed for Wellington come Telford ??? on a free !!!!
in those days non league could sign lge players without paying the fee
many league clubs complained. including the Wolves who kicked up big time
which from memory more or less helped to change the then law
i think Wellington paid him more than he earned at the Wolves ( pre minimum-maximum wage )

Peter Broadbent made 452 appearances for the Wolves scoring 127 goals.
He went on to play for the Villa.
He made 7 appearances for England scoring 2 goals.
He finished his career at Bromsgrove Rovers.
Edit:
Les Cocker played for the Wolves under Stan Cullis.
He was an Engineer & he decided to join Wellington Town to balance his interest in playing football with his career in engineering.

I agree. That does not take away the fact that some players ,strikers in particular, thrive at some clubs ,yet struggle to score at others. I used Franklin as an example.
I could have used other examples, like Clayton, Owen, or Roger Jones.

Joey O’ Connor ?
Was a statement signing at the time and then just never happened.
Same with Lance Morrison
Frank Murphy was supposed to be the signing who clinched it the year we finished second to Maidstone and then unbalanced the team (Rodney Marsh Tino Asprilla) with Morley played out of position!

Re: Striker signs

To be fair Murphy did score quite a few. I think it cost us the title when Carr dropped Hamill.
We failed to win in about five games when he left Hamill out.
Morley missing a sitter against Maidstone at home made a massive difference too.
I don't believe Murphy was a bad signing.

The first season he unbalanced the team which had been motoring until then. Similar to Marsh and Asprilla. One too many. Morley had to withdraw into midfield.
He did score a lot in his second season when we were runners up again.

If he has a ratio like he had at Corby that cant be good for us ..... just saying ....
As I said ( and let's wait and see ) it just feels like a signing with no intention about it.
We have the money on the table now as three have left over the last couple of weeks... we " could " of paid the extra and gone for the striker at Shifnal weve been after, not someone who was in a team third from bottom.
Who was it who I thought of 🤔?
Edit .... and before any brings it up we wouldn't of gone over budget because we've already been paying them 3 wages who have left....

sounds like he wasnt getting the service at Corby ?? ref third from bottom.
although imo he has to shoulder any blame just like the rest there.
anyway managers live or die by a) signings b) results
as ever we will see one way or the other.
for sure they must see something in him. or why sign him. ???

Re: Striker signs

From memory & his brief spell with the Boro some years ago, he is a physical presence & he will bully defenders.
He gives 100% effort & commitment but he is not a cultured/stylish footballer, more an old-fashioned type of centre-forward.
I am sure he will score goals for Town if they can successfully fit him in to their style of play?

I am surprised that anyone can remember his first spell as recruitment at the time was a revolving door.
Stenson, and Bembow I do remember , as they were two of the few players that JG signed that stood out.

In his first appearance for the Boro I remember thinking 'who is this, he looks like a raw novice, a Sunday morning pub player, totally out of his depth at this level!?'
Then in his next appearances he seemed to improve as he got used to playing at that level.
I thought at the time he's not good enough to be playing for the Boro but I'm sure he will do a job for some team at a lower level.
