An old article but sounds like the Staines vs Wealdstone game to a tee
Colwyn Bay manager Frank Sinclair described a game-changing decision by referee Michael George as “crazy” after nine-man Bay suffered a frustrating defeat at Boston.
The Seagulls had deservedly led at half time, but then had defenders Danny Taylor and Tom Smyth both controversially sent off for second yellow cards.
Jonathan Royle had put the Bay in front with a 43rd minute penalty after Marc Williams was brought down in the box by home keeper Lewis King.
Rob Hopley had also clipped a post with a header and Williams was a whisker away from turning in Cameron Darkwah’s low cross.
But on 58 minutes the referee astonishingly gave full back Taylor a second yellow for taking a free kick too quickly when a Bay attack was halted by a foul.
Sinclair called the decision “absolutely crazy” and with the stunned Seagulls forced to hurriedly re-jig their defence, Boston equalised almost immediately through Spencer Weir-Daley in a goalmouth scramble.
The referee then showed a second yellow card to central defender Tom Smyth for dissent after a linesman harshly flagged for a foul by him.
From that free kick Carl Piergianni scored Boston’s winner with a looping header.
Coach Ade Akinbiyi was also ordered from the bench to the dressing room in the furore that followed the second sending-off.
Sinclair said: “I’m not going to go into it too much and get myself in trouble, but it is very disappointing because without a doubt the referee’s decisions have cost us the game.
“First half we’ve absolutely controlled the game, played some great football and I spoke to their manager afterwards and he said that first 45 minutes was the best any visiting team has played against them this season.
“Then we get that first decision (Taylor) which is absolutely crazy.
But Sinclair added “I’m proud of my lads. I thought they were superb and that’s the best we’ve played without a shadow of a doubt.”
