This might cheer a few of you Swans up...

Nine years ago today, Staines Town won the Middlesex Senior Cup for the 10th (and final, to date) time by winning a Spelthorne Derby with my beloved Ashford Town (Middlesex) by 2-0.

'twas an evening Easter Monday kick-off, with yours truly on the tannoy (I was working for the Middlesex FA at the time). I'd also prepared the programme. Although the result wasn't the one I'd hoped for, I do remember it being a great night. There were over 500 people at Uxbridge, despite it being freezing cold with the U12 teams from the clubs' respective Junior sections having a penalty competition (the Ash Trees won that). The atmosphere was excellent, with both sets of fans enjoying themselves. It was Ashford's first-ever Senior Cup Final and Steve Parsons and I worked hard to get the programme right and to persuade the blazerati not to charge £5 for kids.

At this time of turmoil for STFC, have a think about that night if you were there, or your own happy memories if you weren't. And keep the faith!
