Colin,

I agree with almost everything you say. However we can all rewrite history by understanding what we now understand. I am certain Alan Boon, who engineered the outlines of the plan you spoke about, had the best interests of the football club in his heart. He didn't force his premature and untimely death. That unplanned incident sparked so many others that seemed to be choosing the wrong option. The problem was the Gang of Four promising the death, hoping to get rich quick, without investing in the club, the players, the infrastructure of Wheatsheaf Park, and most importantly recognising there is no club without support. I would suggest the loyalty of the supporters and the supporters club have kept the flame alight. Staines and Lammas we are here - although aging!
