This afternoon saw a meeting of two old friends of Staines Town, in a Finnish Premier League (or Veikkausliiga) match.

Jordaan Brown continued his comeback for VPS of Vantaa, in their away match on the Åland Islands, against a club where we have many friends, IFK Mariehamn.

With bottom club TPS making a determined effort to climb away from the single relegation position, it is important for both MIFK and VPS to keep their points tallies ticking over, to ensure they can't get sucked in.

As it transpired, it was the island club that won the game, the only goal coming in the 27th minute.

League leaders HJK Helsinki seem to have a place in next season's Champions' League almost in the bag. Mariehamn are 6th with 31 points, and are now two places and 2 points ahead of VPS, who have a game in hand however. Having had a run of four draws, TPS remain in 12th and last place, but closed the gap on 11th placed Honka by beating them 2-1 today. However, they remain 9 points behind VPS and have played a game more. There are 9 games left for each of these clubs, exccept VPS who have 10 to play.
