Audi gear shifting problems, any advice for Abu Dhabi owners?

My Audi A4 has been jerking when shifting from second to third gear and last week it actually refused to go into reverse for a few seconds which really scared me. The car has done about 120,000 km and I have never had any transmission work done on it so I am guessing this is wear and tear catching up. I took it to a garage near my place in Abu Dhabi and the guy told me the gearbox needs a rebuild which would cost a small fortune. He did not scan it properly, just took it for a short drive and gave me his verdict which I am not convinced by. I have been reading https://auditransmissionrepair.ae/audi-gear-shifting-problems-causes-fixes-abu-dhabi and it seems there are several possible causes like low fluid, a faulty solenoid or even a software issue. How do I know which one applies to my car? What should a proper diagnostic involve because I do not want to pay for a rebuild if it is something simpler. Also does anyone know a trustworthy workshop in Abu Dhabi that actually understands Audi transmissions and will not just guess? I would really appreciate any advice because I am stressed about this and cannot afford to make a costly mistake.
