I've been putting this off for weeks and now it's properly caught up with me. My C-Class went from a light squeak to a hard grind in the space of about three days, and last night on the way home it was so loud that I actually turned the radio off to check I wasn't imagining it. The pedal feels a bit longer than usual too, which is the part that worries me most because I've read that a soft pedal can mean more than just worn pads. I've looked through the wheels and the pads are clearly down to almost nothing, but I can't see whether the discs are chewed up or whether a caliper is dragging on one side. What I don't want is to walk into a garage, be told it's a full set of discs and pads, and have no way of knowing if that's actually true. I'd rather hear from someone who's been through this on a Mercedes and can tell me what signs actually matter, and whether it's normal for a disc to need replacing at the same time as the pads or whether that's a decision based on measurement. Also, is there anything I can check myself before I go in, or is it better to leave it alone and let someone qualified look? Ideally I'd like to find Genuine Mercedes C-Class brake service near Al Barsha rather than a general garage that treats every car the same, so if anyone has a real experience to share, I'd really appreciate it.
