Choir etc
Views: 3168
Over recent seasons I have enjoyed the choir singing for the swans at various games. Okay sometimes people have to be aware of people around them regarding the swearing .
Some people do get passionate with their team because they care about them and sometimes say things they regret later.
We all have opinions about who we think the best players are and who should be playing. That's the fun of football! We are all entitled to an opinion as long as it does not get offensive.
I have to say I think Marcus has done a great job this season. Developed a young side . Done well in the league a good a fa cup run and in the Trophy.
See you all tonight including the choir!

Abusive language

"firstly I applaud the club for responding to the negative post on the forum regarding bad language"
I'm so pleased to hear about this, but don't know what the club has done. Can anyone help me on this? It could make the difference about some of us returning if the club has advised that abusive and bad language is unacceptable at Staines Town.

I agree with the comment made, it was a strange substitution!
So, what is the club doing to conquer the poor attendance? I decided to stand this week behind the goal and the language from the pitch was disgusting! I heard the c word more times in 90 mins than I have heard all year.
What does the club think about the fact Marcus is telling fans to find another club!
My opinion does not matter, I didn't go to that game!

Although I stand behind the goal every game I do not hear much swearing from the players. If I do then it is always the opposition players not our own. What is said at the other end I cannot say as they are too far away. Perhaps I am deaf but I honestly do not hear what you have suggested. That said I clearly hear the swearing from the Choir when they are there or the opposing sides choir as I did on Saturday.
One further point I went to the Dorchester game and I was pleased to see that there were plenty of youngsters which can only be good for the long term support for there club. What I did not hear during the game was swearing. Not saying there is a correlation between the two but I would like to think there is. Not the first club that I have visited that has given me that impression.

I think saying it is always the opposition players is a rather blinkered statement, I stood behind the goal during the second half Saturday and could quite clearly hear players swearing from both teams... But this doesn't bother me, I go to watch the football not moan about other fans or count how many swear words were said!
It was quite obvious a lot of people at the club were against "the choir" from the start because it broke the mold of how things used to be...When Staines were in the ryman south with 50 fans. Things have come a long way since then and I can quite happily say that the positive singing from the choir has definitely had a positive effect game after game.It always seems quite easy for individuals at the club to just blame the choir.

I actually cannot believe people are wasting time talking about this subject. Just get on with it. At the end of the day if people at the club are concerned with swearing and abusive language then let them approach the minority of people in which they refer too.
Its all childish from my perspective. The club need to understand that this is the modern day society and its nothing worse than what you would hear outside of the club or from the players on the pitch.
I haven't been too many games lately so cannot comment on what has recently occurred but come on, just concentrate on the football and not those around you.
This club needs its fans! At the moment the link between club and fans is failing...

Inarticulate swearing attendees at games
Views: 3103
I don't believe it would be a negative outcome if the inarticulate, often the 'worse for wear', swearing contingent felt the need to go to somewhere else on Staines match days. These men are a very small minority - usually fewer than a dozen in number.
I think it is absolutely wonderful that the club has spoken out on this issue. I hope the awful obscenities and jeering when an opposition player is injured has gone from Staines forever.
There are far, far, more decent people who would come to watch Staines now that this tiny minority are advised that their abhorrent behaviour is unwelcome.
Well done, Mr Williams, and well done Staines Town!

I like many do not believe that Troy McClure(character name from the Simpsons) Tim or Sandra Sommerfield are Staines Town supporters,or have even attended a game at Wheatsheaf Park.
I like many believe that they are possibly one and the same person and have succeeded in stirring up a hornets nest, like has been done with other topics in the past.
If these faceless wonders revealed themselves to genuine supporters and to members of the club then this would be a step in the right direction.
I attend virtually every Staines game (home + away including friendlys) and the level of swearing from members of the 'choir'is rare.
If there was continual swearing from Staines Town supporters then i am sure that the club would have acted on this a long time ago.
I (like others) feel that the origin of this thread is a trouble making troll who needs to reveal themselves.
This particular thread started after the Gosport defeat,in which i never heard any swearing from the choir. In fact, most of the choir were not even at the game!!!!!
Comments were made at half time from a couple of supporters regarding Staines players efforts, and Marcus's team selection. I was stood by the tunnel when Marcus was criticised at the half time whistle, and i would reiterate that whilst the criticism may have been harsh it did not involve any swear words.

Saturday v Eastleigh
Views: 3064
I have my programme in front of me. Page 25 - Angie writes "I won't be around for the next few games"
On Saturday, the only swearing I heard came from Eastleigh fans who chanted "I can't hear a f****** thing" during the first half.
One ball went into the field where the donkey used to be. The steward in the orange hi-vis jacket unlocked a gate and retrieved it.
Angie was wearing tan coloured trousers.
I was there on Saturday. I am a Staines fan who has been attending since the 1960s

Pathetic.
If people are prepared to throw accusations about aimed at certain people, they should be prepared to deal with these so-called problems face to face.
Most people on this forum do not hide behind a cartoon character name, and people know who they are.
I would point out that i do not sit in the stand,am not part of the choir at home games, and first supported the Swans in 1970 (aged 9),when Staines were still in the Spartan League.
If i have a gripe,i don't hide behind a false name.

I must have selective hearing or must just be a liar. I didn't hear a single swear word on Saturday, I made it up!
As to the comment from Troy or Tim about the minority going elsewhere on match day, most of these people went home and away until this farce came about, but these people have lost motivation. Troy will you be at the game tonight?
I would like to see what the board are planning on doing to get more fans into the ground on match days? I don't think the swearing is the main reason people don't come.
What did the board think about Marcus telling fans to go away?

Big club announcement...
I seem to recall the club announcing the plans to building a training and learning facility at Laleham There have been forms available in the shop and at the 50/50 and programme desk for the last few home games for you to fill out to support the club achieve what, realistically, for a non league club, would put us miles ahead of others as well as bringing the local community closer to the club.
I'm not looking for an argument before anyone starts... I just want to let you know that this big announcement is not so 'unbelievable' after all!

Perhaps it should have been released to Keith as well so he could have put it on the website, which is where a lot of us keep in contact with what is going on at the club. Apologies if it was and I missed it! :-)
