Our woes aside, it’s a sobering thought to see that two clubs from our time at Step 2, and who both recently lost out in the play-offs for promotion to the dizzy heights of Step 1 (Basingstoke and Whitehawk) also shared the double drop experience with us down to Step 4 at the weekend. In Basingstoke’s case, not only was 49 points insufficient, but it was also their last game at the venerable old Camrose, as they move to become a Community club in more modest surroundings at Winklebury
On a more positive note, Hayes & Yeading showed that it’s possible to come back from an even more traumatic few years (dropping from Step 1 to 4 and homeless for a good while) by taking the South Central title (albeit that Egham were relegated after a season not unlike ours).
Whilst amongst the ex Swans, a Tommy Brewer goal helped save Walton Casuals from the drop, Jonathon Hippolyte netted for Met Police as they head to the play-offs, and Elliott Buchanan scored (yet again) for the all conquering Bostik champions, Dorking (just as he did for us in the final game of last season). And, of course, our near neighbours, Chertsey (led by the voice of the Non League Show, Dave Anderson) are heading to Wembley for the FA Vase final. And with the Curfews having already clinched the league title, we could well be visiting Alwyns Lane next season. So, something to look forward to next season after all!

Regardless of what happens,I echo what my fellow Press colleagues are saying. I’ve supported the club for some time now and I will continue to do so regardless.
