The following is an announcement from our Chairman Joe Dixon: -

Staines Town Football Club are delighted to announce that Martin Kuhl has been appointed as permanent first team Head Coach.

Mahrez Bettache has stepped down as Interim Manager and has been offered the opportunity to remain at the football club as part of both the playing squad and backroom team following his good work in recent weeks.

Martin joins the club and brings with him a wealth of experience which has seen him play over 350 games as a professional for Birmingham City, Portsmouth, Derby County and Bristol City to name a few. Since retiring Martin has obtained his UEFA Pro Licence alongside Thierry Henry and has had spells at Reading FC fulfilling the role of U21 Manager in which he won promotion to the U21 premier league as well as Assistant Manager roles at Aldershot Town, Wycombe Wanderers where he won promotions and Torquay United, he was most recently manager at Basingstoke Town.

We would like to place on record our thanks to Mahrez for stepping into the Interim Manager role and overseeing the recent set of fixtures.

Last season we seemed to sign more managers than players. This season we started well (in friendlies) with a new manager, who due to unforeseen personal circumstances, rightly left the club. Mahrez took on the mantle and seems to be settling in well. In fact he got the club the Performance of the month award. The Chairman, who promised us football league status in 10 years, rewards the interim manager with the sack and appoints a new manager. I have nothing against Martin Kuhl. I don't know him and he should only be judged on the performance of the team in the coming days. There are a number of the most loyal fans at the club, some going to all matches, home and away. I try to get to home matches, health issues permitting. However, my years, my professional qualifications, my long work life and voluntary sector working leave me nonplussed by the Chairmans actions. He needs to explain his logic, rather than just issue a bland statement. I agree it is his money that is invested in the club. However, it is the loyalty of the fans that keep the club going. The fanbase can only grow by good performances on the pitch on a consistent basis. This must be culled with a good performance by the clubs owners demonstrating that they have the best interests of the club at heart. Sadly I think the club is currently missing on both. Performances and results have improved under Mahrez. The replacing of a glimmer of light puts the ownership in a less than favourable light.

Totally agree with your sentiments Arthur-an excellent post . Very strange and worrying decision especially as it looked over the last six weeks that we may have at last turned a corner. Continuity of management and a settled squad is, in my opinion, an essential element if the club is to progress.if mahrez does decide to leave the club, how many players will follow him.

Do not wish to pre-judge Kuhl ,however, checking out his record at his previous club Basingstoke doe not make happy reading .Prior to his departure in September ,12 defeats in his last 13 competitive matches and the club at the base of the League and facing this season the possibility of 3rd relegation in 5 years. Simply does not add up , hope I am totally wrong but sadly facts are facts .
The Chairmans record on appointing managers since taking over speaks for itself and not explaining his decision is in effect an insult to all those contributing to the club in so many ways especially through the" Boost the Budget Scheme " which looked to me to be increasing as the results improved under mahrez

Hey ho here we go again on the rollercoaster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
