A long slow demise
Views: 5691
Apart from a few random, bizarre posts resurrecting halcyon days or looking at lies, damn lies and statistics, this forum has been very quiet. Should it become a forum for a Combined Counties team which has arisen out of the ashes of Staines Town Football Club? Or should it fade into the mists of time.
Historically, when Matthew sold the football club, he didn't. The football club still exists and is, as far as I am aware, still registered with the Fa. Those buying what they thought was the football club, did after due diligence (Was always assured they did their due diligence) purchased Staines Town Football Club Limited. The petition to liquidate the limited company was started in August 2022, nearly 3 years ago. It is still not complete. It survived for so long because the directors decided that the limited company was still a going concern. The limited company was technically insolvent and survived by increasing funding from the directors, which it would never be able to repay unless the football club achieved its league status within 10 years of the takeover. After this time the liquidation of the limited company should be completed, after all these years. It has no assets. The liquidator is paid first (from no funds) and lastly the creditors - who will get nothing.
Similarly, after all these years, do we rename the forum for the current side, or wind it up with many happy memories?

How sad when someone who has never seen any Staines football team tries to hijack a football fans website. They should be thinking about all those dwarves who are struggling to put food on the table

The Massive message board is probably the last remaining memory of Staines Town Football club and is held in memory and respect for our deceased club. However the lack of participation tells a story in itself and
as much as I love Staines and Lammas FC, it cannot hold a place in my heart like Staines Town did and that sentiment I feel will hold true for many people, those who have abandoned their support as it is no longer Staines Town FC would jump at the chance to come back and support their club if the original name was resurrected.
My personal view is that Staines and Lammas will never achieve the same heights in its present guise and the only logical choice would be to reform as the original club. I know some people would be disappointed at losing the Lammas title but realistically it is probably the only way forward unless a rich beneficiary can be found to pump serious wonga into the club and that ain’t happening any time soon I’m guessing….

Having spoken to the last owner about bums on seats and being ignored. He believed people would come and cheer us into the football league. I told him to do this he had to invest on the field. Good players playing good football will get bums on seats and grow the club. He disagreed and instead of getting us league status in 10 years he took us to oblivion in 4.
Now we our home bound was renting a suspect pitch. We hired Ashford Towns pitch, but couldn't get bums on seatds as we had to give 7 days notice of the venue. Bums on seats nil. The ground is passed fit, but we can't get our scheduled fixture played because of the length of notice needed for a team who know they have a scheduled fixture. Without bums on seats, football dies.

Seems Dixons long term plan was to milk the club for what he could, probably not having done his homework on the existing covenant in place regarding its use. Once he realised he wouldnt be able to get anything out of any redevelopment, he just did everything he could to bring the club to its knees and destroy any remaining small goodwill that could have been restored between the club and the Thames Club. The true demise really started though, when Sheffield United sold the lease onto the Thames Club, it was indeed a long, slow demise from there.

Colin,
I agree with almost everything you say. However we can all rewrite history by understanding what we now understand. I am certain Alan Boon, who engineered the outlines of the plan you spoke about, had the best interests of the football club in his heart. He didn't force his premature and untimely death. That unplanned incident sparked so many others that seemed to be choosing the wrong option. The problem was the Gang of Four promising the death, hoping to get rich quick, without investing in the club, the players, the infrastructure of Wheatsheaf Park, and most importantly recognising there is no club without support. I would suggest the loyalty of the supporters and the supporters club have kept the flame alight. Staines and Lammas we are here - although aging!

A chunk of the supporters of Staines & Lammas (Middlesex) FC are ex- Staines Town FC supporters.
Half of the clubs committee are ex- Staines Town FC people.
The current manager is an ex- Staines Town FC manager.
Staines & Lammas (Middlesex) FC is an amalgamation of a club (Staines Lammas FC) who were formed in 1926, and a number of committee and supporters from the old Staines Town FC.
We are not run by a lying, cheating owner like some clubs but are run by a committee who amongst them put a lot of time and effort into running the football club.
We have home games coming up on 4th and 7th Oct at our current home ground (Spelthorne Sports FC) which we groundshare at.
if you don't already follow us, why not come and check us out. All supporters are more than welcome.

Sounds like a club built on genuine passion and community spirit, which is great to see at this level. Fair play to everyone involved for keeping things going the right way. I might just come along to one of those October games—always good to support a welcoming, hard-working local side.

Honestly, with Staines Town FC Limited officially finishing its liquidation in late 2025, the "legal" ghost of the club is finally gone. It’s a sad end, but the paperwork is done and the creditors got exactly what you predicted: nothing.
If this forum stays stuck on "lies and statistics" or old dramas, it’s just going to die out. There’s no point waiting for a miracle from a company that doesn't exist anymore soundboard .
Right now, Staines & Lammas (Middlesex) is the only thing keeping the town's name on the map in the Combined Counties League. It might not be the "Swans" we grew up with, but it’s actual football happening on a Saturday.
In my opinion, we should pivot the forum to support the current local setup. Better to evolve and keep the community alive than to let the whole thing fade into the mists of time. What’s the alternative? Just posting to an empty room?

I get where you’re coming from. Once the liquidation of Staines Town FC Limited wrapped up, it really did close the final chapter legally, even if emotionally it’s harder for supporters to move on. Forums like this often survive on memories and debates about the past, but at some point that well runs dry if there’s nothing current to talk about sound buttons
I think you’re right that local football still matters, and Staines & Lammas (Middlesex) at least gives people in the town something real to follow on a Saturday. It’s not the same history or identity as the Swans, but communities and clubs evolve over time. Maybe the forum could find a balance - keeping a place for the history while also talking about what football in Staines looks like now. Otherwise, like you said, it risks turning into people just posting into the void.

All of this is very true, However, this site is maintained and kept "clean" by one man - Wakes. We should all give thanks to him. He still goes to watch Staines and Lammas, as do I (missed yesterday's game as it was my wife's birthday). I am sure if you wish to add new comments or posts about Staines and Lammas, you can. The site is normally about positives and also hopes. Our hopes for the future often reflect our history and where we have come from. The past can never be forgotten, nor should it be. The future is ours to get the emerging team of Staines and Lammas further up the pyramid.
PS Staines Town football club is also still in existence. The future's bright. The future's yellow.

On the forum point, communities like this tend to survive when they still have a clear identity. If the original club still technically exists (for example via registration with The Football Association), then there’s at least a historical and possibly ongoing anchor. Repurposing it entirely for a new Combined Counties side might keep activity up, but it risks losing the connection that brought people here in the first place. Equally, letting it fade feels a bit like erasing that shared history. A middle ground—acknowledging the past while discussing the present—might be the most natural evolution like Ai receptionist Harrisburg and Virtual receptionist Peoria.
