Pitch

That picture was chosen as it represented the most VISIBLY awful area of the pitch. You can clearly see that the muddy area extends well onto the pitch but that's really not the issue and no one has a problem playing on a superficially muddy pitch.

Most people commenting here did not have the benefit of walking onto the middle of the pitch. There was a large tract of the pitch running from the centre circle to the goal at the bottom end of the ground. It simply isn't a matter of how muddy the pitch was, but how soft.

We had a Kent League home match called off by referee Karl May against Erith Town two years ago. There were two areas on the pitch he was not happy about. Both were no more than 2 square foot, these areas were quite soft and deemed dangerous. The pitch yesterday was 20 times worse than that in terms of area where the pitch was excessively soft. Just because it's covered in grass doesn't mean it's safe or playable. You really need to get onto the pitch to see that.
