Actually not everyone agreed that game should not have started. Those of us over the age of 40 remember when games were routinely played on pitches like this (& far worse). Apart from two challenges which could have caused injury on any surface (both as it happens from visiting players) there were no incidents which looked likely to cause injury and the game to a neutral like myself (and several others) was a cracker.
As an aside the Ref would not have faced a law suite had a player been injured, this is an urban myth which has resulted from an incident in a Rugby match were the ref failed to apply the laws of the game and had nothing to do with the condition of the playing surface.
Overall I suspect that opinions on if the game should have been played may be influenced more by the result and how important it was to the individual than by the application of logic.
