Don't let a little bit of rain put you off. Four covered sides and a 3G pitch, an unmissable local derby between league pacesetters and east Surrey's grooviest football club what more could anyone want? We've even got a bar serving beer.

Come on down. 3 o'clock in the afternoon kick off.

MATCH OFF

This would appear to be a snagging issue we think caused by excess oil on the rubber pellets causing a catastrophic failing of the drainage system.

The contractors will be back on site at 1pm Tuesday afternoon. Obviously from our point of view it's incredibly embarrassing and would like to apologise to anyone inconvenienced by the postponement.

Who would want to watch a game of football in this shite weather anyway? It was not to be. 3G pitches are at their best when everyone else's match is off.

the idea of a 3g pitch is to be playing in those circumstances. As it goes we are the only team NOT to be on today. Lets hope that this is just a snagging issue and that the pitch is able to prove its worth from now on.

Oh Dear, how long do you think it will be before you able to use the pitch again and how much do you think that it will cost.

The contractors are due to be back on site at 1pm this afternoon and we can't comment on what cost this rectification work would be to them.

Do you think the contractors will be able to do the work quickly or will you need to re-arrange any matches. I presume that the cost of this will on the contractors and not your club

I would like to think they could do it immediately. All the water has now drained off the pitch and it's playable. Yesterday was particularly atrocious weather and it's fortunate for other clubs that it came after a reasonably long spell of dry weather so their pitches could soak up all that was thrown at them.

The strongest theory about what went wrong is a residue off the rubber crumb building up rapidly and instead of filtering down the drain, it caused a blockage which prevented the water from penetrating down to the drainage system. I know some people think there was simply too much crumb laid down but we are in the hands of the experts.

It may be that the residue has now simply washed through now and we will never get a repeat but obviously we would want a pretty strong reassurance of this!

I doubt that there would be any need to rearrange any matches.

There certainly seemed to be an excessive amount of rubber crumbs kicking up from the surface during the Dulwich pre-season match (compared to the games I've seen at Maidstone on their similar pitch) but I just put that down to the surface being so new and not having had time to settle.

Hopefully the matter will be speedily rectified, as the improvement in artificial pitches over recent decades has now rendered those who still oppose them at our level as Luddites in my view.
