Redbridge Saturday

Another terrific away win for Whyteleafe and another good win across the border.

A few people found Oakside not to their taste for whatever reason. Can't help thinking that it wouldn't take an awful lot of effort to make it an excellent little ground. A bit of weeding both along the edge of the pitch and at the far end of the ground (which was looking superficially derelict). A coat of paint to cover up that graffiti and you have the making of a tidy ground with some really good viewing areas.

I thought Leafe dropped a bit in level and coasted to a victory and even when they went a goal behind I thought they could turn it on at any time. In the end it was a superb free kick from J Thompson that won it. Another set piece the pundits would be dribbling over on Match of the Day.

Agree the viewing areas were excellent, although the elevated position behind the goal did endanger one's crown jewels. But the whole place was sorely neglected. How many times has someone at the club walked past those damaged fence panels and done nothing about it? Paulo took one look and went into DIY mode, they need someone like him. They charge a lot at a tenner to get in, and the clubhouse was smart, just a shame that they haven't found the time to tidy up the rest of the ground. It lets the place down. Good luck to them though, as you say, the makings of a decent venue.

Agreed. The ground did look in a sorry state but Redbridge ground share with Landlords Barkingside so no fault of theirs. As said the clubhouse looked smart and modern but the rest of the place looked awful. Makes me wonder how Redbridge, with a crowd of 57 (the lowest in all of the trophy games in the country yesterday) can survive. After paying rent and the officials they must be making a loss on every home game,

Not quite Paulo. Redbridge took over the lease from Barkingside 10-12 years ago and Barkingside moved out a couple of years later. They now groundshare at Ilford. Redbridge are solely responsible for the ground and one has to assume they struggle for volunteers.

They're not doing themselves any favours by charging £10 though and could potentially win a few more local fans by dropping that. By getting a few fans you can win a few volunteers.

Was somewhat confused as their website still says they play there and the latest team photo is taken at the ground. However there is now a link to their new website.

I see that the gate at Redbridge last night v Waltham Abbey was 35. When you work out the players, subs, managers/coaches and match officials there were more on the pitch than off!
