Herne Bay 1 Whyteleafe 3
A pleasing result but not the best of games, spoilt almost entirely by a referee so arrogant and biased it should demand an enquiry.
Put it this way, there was not a Physio on the pitch all game yet we picked up 6 yellow cards for mostly innocuous challenges.
To even things up a bit Adolph gave one of their players a yellow for kicking the ball away when they were 0-3 down and another for presumably telling him it was unwarranted.
Ah, the football. Sheik produced some fine saves early on but after Ryan Fowler had opened the scoring Herne Bay barely had a shot on goal bar a late consolation.
Leafe MOTM was Jason Henry, as pacy and tricky at the end as he was at the start - a fine display.
We won, that's the main thing.
Re: Herne Bay 1 Whyteleafe 3
Another solid performance. The pitch didn't make for flowing football.
We were missing a few players tonight (which always happens on our mid week away games) but we looked the far stronger team and when the second goal was scored there was only going to be one winner.
Fans tend to moan about a ref when they have lost. Well the guy tonight had a real shocker. 6 yellow cards for the Leafe and there was not one nasty tackle by either side throughout the whole match.
Three points, five pints, two micropubs but no Oysters whilst in Whistable.
Onwards and upwards. Bring on South Park.
Re: Herne Bay 1 Whyteleafe 3
Due to the absurd flurry of yellow cards we had six players who were unable to put in a decent tackle and it was a credit to our lads that none saw red.
The Herne Bay players would go down sqealing then jump up the minute a card was waved.
With even a half decent Ref we would have scored 6+
Herne Bay 1 Ramsgate 3
Agree the referee had a poor game but you don't do yourself any good at all by the amount of moaning and dissent the players and the management gave the referee. It was by far the worse of any team that I have seen this season. Human nature being what it is the referee is not going to do any favours in these circumstances. Both sides could have had a penalty but by then he had obviously decided that neither side, given the abuse by the Herne Bay assistant manager, would be given anything.
Re: Herne Bay 1 Ramsgate 3
Interesting comment by Edward. From what I have seen, messrs Fowler, Davenport and Smith are usually very respectful of officials. For them to be so animated is an indication of how poor the referee's performance was. The best comment on the night was 'Where are the assessors when you need them?'
Just as well that the difference between the sides on the night was such that the ref could not unduly impact the result. Well played the team.
Such a contrast with the ref we had at home to Guernsey who was exceptional. 'Can you ref us every week?'
Although i agree with Edward,( so nice to see him and his good lady again), that the dissent can get over the top, this ref did nothing to help his own game. Bently got yellow carded ( rightly) for a tackle in the oppo half by the touch line , but a minute later, Ryan was hacked down with a challenge where feet left the ground and the ref did nothing..Consistency is key to gaining the respect of the players and the fans watching, and this ref did himself or the game no favours. Shawn got booked for merely jumping for a header when he first came on, and the ref's signal seemed to be for persistent fouling , having pointed at several locations on the pitch!!! Even his linesman was heard to say the ref's performance was embarrassing. So he even lost the respect of his colleagues!!!
If Herne Bay cant win this game , with this ref, than they are a poor outfit indeed.
But back to Edwards main point, last year we won the fair play award in the SECL, but we are rapidly losing out to silly bookings. We are coming to the point of the season where these bookings and subsequent suspensions can only cost us dear. The time has come for any player who is booking for mouthing off, should pay his own fine and may be get fined by the club.
Bently is now one more card away from a game ban, that will be 10 offences in half a season!!! That is going to cost us somewhere down the line!!!
Still top 5 though and a win Sat will take us into the Christmas period in a very good position. Lets make sure we are in a position to take advantage of of that by keeping our best players on the pitch, not sat on their arse waiting out a suspension.
