Away to Billericay or AFC Hornchurch to be played by 20 Feb.

Another foray north of the river then.

Hornchurch would be a new ground for me but I think I'd prefer Billericay. I believe Hornchurch has a running track doesn't it?

I remember going to Hornchurch a few years ago for what must have been a cup match though I don't remember which tournament (it was an evening game). They do have a running track and the ground wasn't conducive to standing behind the goals. Decent covered stands down one side though, from memory. Not been to Billericay before.

Whichever game it is, drivers will have to remember to pay their Dartford toll in advance online as there are no toll booths now and big fines for not paying.

Either way it's the opportunity to go north of the Thames and visit my hub-caps.

In that cup tie with Hornchurch I recall one of our players, possibly Callum, getting sent off in both legs, although rather harshly at Church Road.

Hornchurch had just gone bust but were previously sponsored by a Double Glazing firm so the Clubhouse resembled a Conservatory Showroom at a suburban garden centre. The running track meant the pitch was best viewed via the Hubble Telescope.

Regarding the Dartford Crossing, you do have to pay online although you have up to 7 days subsequently to do so.

It works on number plate recognition so alternatively you can use black tape to make an F a P, or 3 an 8, etc, etc but I wouldn't recommend it obviously. Not after last time...

Anyway, either tie looks like an adventure so bring it on.

I'd forgotten about the conservatory inspired clubhouse. Well remembered. Oh yes, and the Rooney sending offs. I do remember you blowing a gasket at that game but that's not such a rare occurrence. It's all coming back now.

You can also pay in certain shops. Having had the joy of a trip to Purfleet recently, I paid in the Caterham Service Station in the High Street. They told me you only have until midnight the following day to pay afterwards so don't necessarily rely on the seven day Mark says (I'm not saying he's definitely wrong though - do check).

Crikey, it is indeed only until midnight of the following day before the penalty applies!

I set up an account with Dartcharge and paid in £10 for the occassional time that I use the crossing. I have a couple of clients in Chelmsford.

On the positive side, my first time using it the tunnel out and bridge back were a breeze with no delays whatsoever.

When I used it we had to slow down to about 10 mph going north for the reg plate recognition but sailed through going south.

Didn't we go to Hornchurch around 7-8 years ago?

I was particularly ranty and was subsequently advised here by a Hornchurch fan to "go and get your PMT issues sorted out"

I never did

I can't remember what competition it was in either but I seem to remember we held them 1-1 at our place and then they turned us over in the beautiful town of Hornchurch.

It was in the FA Trophy 2nd Qualifying Round.
We drew 1-1 at Church Road and lost 4-0 in the replay.

Darryl 'Rooney' Coleman was sent off in both games for violent conduct therefore getting a 7 match ban it total.

Thanks Edward.

Yes, of course, it was "Rooney" Coleman. Such potential as a player but, cough, the odd temperment issue.

I recall however that the sending off at Church Road, infact the result itself, was a travesty and the replay a night of, once more, abject Referee inspired misery.

I think I would prefer Billericaaaaaay! on balance.

I see our potential opponents were due to meet tonight but it has been postponed in favour of an Essex Cup game and will now be played next Monday 26th January. Presumably a Scout will be snooping?

We have played Billericay in the past, to the best of my knowledge it was a very pleasant venue, but cannot remember if they in Div 1 when we were or it could have been Cup?

We played Billericay for six seasons in Ryman Div 1. Billericay were promoted to that division in 1992/3 and played with Leafe for 6 seasons before being promoted to the premier as runners up to Aldershot in 1997/98

Billericay only ever makes me think of one thing. Perhaps we can work on some Leafe inspired wording to this classic from the late, great Ian Dury.
