20/21 Season
Views: 784
With the prospect of an early restart looking gloomier by the day -any thoughts on how this season could be concluded.
Very little chance in my view of fulfilling fixtures by official end date -therefor think it best to abandon this season and restart 21/22 in August as normal ( god willing).
Most important that players, officials and supporters are kept safe without temtation to push the guidelines
Friendlies could be arranged from next restart to official end of 20/21 season.

I don't think that abandoning the season would be the right thing to do unless we stay in Tier 4 for several months.
I would say that there are 2 options which could be considered if the season were to start at the end of January/beginning of February:-
A) Split the leagues into 2 halves ( in our case 2 leagues of 10). Play each of the other 9 teams home and away with the team finishing top gaining automatic promotion.
This would give 1 team from each half promotion without there being any play-offs.
This would give a mini season of 18 competitive games.
B) Leave the leagues in the current format (in our case 20 teams). Play each team once (either Home or Away).
Automatic promotion for the top team + play-offs as per normal with play-off winner gaining promotion.
This would give a mini season of 19 competitive games + possibly 2 play-off games.
Both of the above scenarios could see a competitive half season completed in 3 months (13 Saturdays + 5(or 6) midweek games.
The half season could be completed between the end of January/beginning of February and the beginning of May.+ possible play-offs.
Heres hoping that Tier 4 (lockdown) does'nt last longer than needed and that the country starts to go back to what was once considered normal and that this horrible pandemic is brought under control once and for all.

Really great suggestions John which work well .Would love to see it happen.
My neighbour has been self isolating -his latest letter from Mat Hancock asks him to self isolate until at at least 26/1/21.That suggests to me that we could be in tier4 until at least that date. Most clubs would expect 2/3 weeks of prep before starting competative games . Takes us up to mid/ end of Feb.
Sadly guidelines are being ignored by some so the only way to rid ourselves of this horror is to have restrictions in place for as long is needed.Wish it was otherwise.

It now seems that an abandonment of this season is becoming a very real possibility.
Clubs to be surveyed on their opinions.
Whatever happens league fixtures are postponed until 6th March at the earliest.
When will this nightmare ever end ?
